A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to physician inquiries regarding firearm ownership. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 159, Occupations Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Section 159.011 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 159.011. INQUIRY INTO FIREARM OWNERSHIP. A physician |
|
|
who requests that a patient or a parent or guardian of a patient |
|
|
provide information regarding firearm ownership by the patient, |
|
|
parent, or guardian shall disclose to the patient, parent, or |
|
|
guardian: |
|
|
(1) why the information is requested; and |
|
|
(2) to whom the information will be provided and for |
|
|
what purpose, if the physician is requesting the information other |
|
|
than for the physician's own patient records. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
