SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 493
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
	recognize Major Michael A. Sullenger for 45 years of
	distinguished service in the field of law enforcement; and
	WHEREAS, Major Sullenger began his career in law
	enforcement in 1977 as a member of the United States Air Force;
	during his 16 years of military service, he worked in security
	police divisions at numerous bases in the United States and
	Europe, and he served as director of Security Plans and Programs
	for the United States and North Atlantic Treaty Organization
	Forces in Germany; as director, he oversaw procedures and
	personnel at 23 Central European NATO installations; and
	WHEREAS, Upon his retirement from the military, Major
	Sullenger began working with the Willacy County Sheriff's
	Department; he later served as assistant chief of police at The
	University of Texas--Pan American, where he also developed
	employee education courses and implemented a computer-based
	communications center; and
	WHEREAS, Major Sullenger has served as chief of the Valley
	International Airport Police Department since May of 2013; in
	this capacity he oversees all department personnel and ensures
	that the department provides comprehensive support to the
	Transportation Security Administration in its daily screening
	responsibilities; and
	WHEREAS, Major Sullenger is an exemplary professional in
	his field and has dedicated his life to the safety and security of
	his fellow citizens; he truly deserves recognition for his years
	of outstanding service; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
	Legislature, hereby commend Major Michael A. Sullenger for his
	commitment to his country, his state, and his community during
	his 45 years of service in law enforcement and extend to him
	sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
	him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
