SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 827
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the members of the Barton and Elder families on the
  special occasion of their family reunion, which is being held
  June 26 through June 28, 2015, with the theme "God made us family;
  love keeps us friends"; and
 
         WHEREAS, The descendants of the Barton and Elder families
  get together biennially to rejoice in their fellowship and
  commemorate their heritage; the reunion this year is taking place
  in Fort Worth, and it is being hosted by Aaron and Adeyinka
  Yarbough; and
 
         WHEREAS, The earliest records of the Barton family reveal
  that the family included farmers and sharecroppers who moved to
  Texas from Alabama; Sam Barton is the first Barton family member
  listed in census records; Sam had one son, Ben Barton; Ben and his
  second wife, Liza Green Barton, had five children, one of whom
  was Robert Barton, who married Sadie Elder; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Elder family came to Texas from Georgia and
  Virginia; its history begins with Charles Elder, who had five
  daughters; their daughter Rosetta and William Boyd were the
  parents of Sadie; and
 
         WHEREAS, Sadie and Robert Barton were married on January 3,
  1918, and became the parents of 15 children, nine of whom have
  since passed away and are fondly remembered:  Edna Barton Conley,
  Robert "Dump" Barton Jr., Mavis Barton Davis, Andrew George
  "A.G." Barton, Mable "Fatty" Barton Oaks, Irma Jean Barton
  Martin, Christine Barton, Floyd Barton, and Freda Barton Brooks;
  Robert and Sadie Barton's surviving children are Homer Barton,
  Charles Barton, Eulanda "Teeny" Yarbough, LaVerne Washington,
  Thelma "Bea" Borbin, and Linda Hendrix; and
 
         WHEREAS, Sadie Barton was a devoted wife, mother, and
  homemaker; Robert Barton worked hard as a farmer who also did
  carpentry and painting to provide for his family; and
 
         WHEREAS, Sadie and Robert Barton were among the first
  families in the Navarro and Eureka communities to own a car and a
  radio, and their home was a favorite gathering place; they moved
  to Hester Grove and later bought the Tramel Farm in Kerens; Sadie
  owned several parcels of land in Corsicana that played a role in
  convincing Robert to purchase the Tramel Farm; and
 
         WHEREAS, Sadie and Robert Barton were devoted members of
  the Griffin Chapel Church of God in Christ of Corsicana, where
  they served in several capacities, including trustee, deacon,
  and Sunday school treasurer; Robert died in 1961, and Sadie died
  in 1980; they are both buried in the Cheneyboro Cemetery in
  Navarro County; and
 
         WHEREAS, The descendants of Sadie and Robert Barton live a
  life based on faith and traditional family values, and they are
  leaders and productive members of their respective communities
  in Texas and throughout the country; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby extend to the members of the Barton and Elder
  families best wishes for a joyous and memorable family reunion;
  and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  them as a memento of this special occasion.
