A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to designating June as Gun Violence Awareness Month. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 662, Government Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 662.112 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 662.112. GUN VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH. (a) June is |
|
|
Gun Violence Awareness Month to increase awareness of gun violence |
|
|
and encourage community residents and leaders to discuss and |
|
|
implement methods for reducing or preventing gun violence in order |
|
|
to make communities safer and healthier, especially during the |
|
|
summer months when gun violence typically peaks. |
|
|
(b) Gun Violence Awareness Month may be regularly observed |
|
|
through appropriate activities in communities to increase |
|
|
awareness and prevention of gun violence. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
