A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to requiring the Texas Department of Public Safety and the |
|
|
Texas School Safety Center to provide information and resources |
|
|
regarding safe firearm storage to school districts and |
|
|
open-enrollment charter schools for distribution to the parents or |
|
|
legal custodians of students. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 37, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 37.221 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 37.221. SAFE FIREARM STORAGE INFORMATION. (a) The |
|
|
Texas Department of Public Safety and the center shall provide to |
|
|
all school districts and open-enrollment charter schools |
|
|
information and resources about safe firearm storage to be |
|
|
distributed through the district or school to the parents or legal |
|
|
custodians of students. |
|
|
(b) The information and resources described by subdivision |
|
|
(a) shall include information about Texas Penal Code Section 46.13 |
|
|
and steps parents and legal custodians can take to prevent children |
|
|
from accessing a firearm. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
